Have A Go!

We’ve been inviting foster carers in the Whitehaven and Barrow area to Have a Go! at filmmaking techniques, creative writing, music, drama, singing, photography and animation.

Workshops took place in Whitehaven, Maryport and Barrow-in-Furness.

There will be a final celebration event in Maryport this November, watch this space for details.

The idea behind Have a Go! has been to build resilience in children looked after by providing the opportunity for them to work with professional artists alongside their foster carers, to develop creative activities that they can continue in their homes with their foster carers and families.  We know that taking part in creative activities raises self esteem and enables us to explore our identity and how we perceive the world around us and our role in it.  It’s also fun and rewarding and we learn new skills.

During the project the children have been the first young people to access the new Arts Award, "Discover".

We are really pleased to announce that twenty three children are in the process of completing this - that's an amazing twenty three children who will have gained an Arts Award! Congratulations and well done to all of them.
