The story of Owen Jones, Charcoal Burner and oak swill basket maker, filmed in Stony Hazel woods in the depths of winter

Owen is one of the few surviving oak swill basket makers in the land. A former helicopter engineer, he changed his life several years ago, preferring to work alone in the woods making charcoal and cutting wood. This film follows him on his first burn of the year on a dark December day.

A gentle film portraying of this dying art with a thought provoking question underlying it.

"Carbon lasts forever really. So you are converting the trees back into carbon, improving the soil, but also locking in the carbon"

"I really enjoy the times when I am standing in this lovely natural environment just soaking up the surroundings"

"Bringing together looked after children as a group in this way is unique. It allows them to use the arts explore issues related to being in care in a totally new way, with quite extraordinary results."
